we are Tennesseans who are:
Tired of being named as one of the states with the worst voter turnout and voter registration ranks.
Disgusted by elected officials and legislators who continue to put corporate greed, selfish interests, and white supremacy above the health, safety, and wellbeing of Black Tennesseans.
Determined to reclaim our voice and the state for the People.
Committed to building unapologetic, independent Black political and economic power that will unlock access to all forms of power.
What We Do
Expand the electorate (the total number of people in an area who are able to vote in an election) by engaging low propensity voters (voters who don’t vote often or in every election) and disenfranchised communities to participate in the democratic process.
Educate Black communities about the political process, relevant economic, social, and political issues, and how impending legislation (laws) will impact their lives.
Engage and empower Black Tennesseans to take action and make their voices heard. We resist, persist, join forces, call, write, petition, assemble, and most importantly, vote.
Monitor legislation to hold our state and local elected officials accountable and keep them in check.
Promote civic leadership by preparing everyday Black people to tap into all levels of civic engagement by shaping processes and policy on the local, state, and national level, from local boards, committees, and associations to running for office.
Create alliances with individuals and groups in order to present a united front against any economic barriers that seek to marginalize, disenfranchise, or discriminate against Black people, people of color, and vulnerable populations.
Our work is rooted in
4 guiding principles:
SElf-determination & freedom
We believe that the pathway to Black liberation is to ensure that we give people the information, tools, and winning strategies to exercise self-agency, to be self-determining, and have freedom of choice to make decisions on the issues impacting our lives. Having the self-determination to fully participate in our democracy is the key to our liberation.
ALL MEANS ALL
We believe that all people are created equal and are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We must pursue and protect these rights.
COLLECTIVE BUYING POWER
We believe that there is power in numbers. We seek to use our buying power to fuel our voting power.
EDUCATION IS THE GREAT EQUALIZER
We believe that when you know better, you do better. We seek to educate individuals and communities on how to become better informed, engaged, and productive members of society.
