The Equity Alliance needs YOU! We welcome relentless, passionate volunteers who are willing to give their time and talents. Join one of our Teams to get involved:

Policy Research

Team Leaders: Kyonzte Hughes-Toombs

This team will be tasked with:

  • Attend monthly team conference calls and/or meetings
  • Collect quantitative and qualitative data using a variety of original and secondary sources (interviews, surveys, focus groups, online databases, news articles, reports)
  • Write drafts of policy reports and briefs
  • Partner with think tanks, college research departments, government departments to obtain and analyze data
  • Develop timeline for releasing publish reports
  • Maintain and collect Nashville voter, precinct, and election data

Advocacy Team

Team Leader: Christiane Buggs

This team will be tasked with:

  • Attend monthly team conference calls and/or meetings
  • Attend state legislative committee hearings, joint sessions
  • Attend Metro Council meetings
  • Attend MNPS School Board meetings
  • Organize Day on the Hill event
  • Track notable bills
  • Track how legislators vote on bills we’re monitoring
  • Meeting with legislators
  • Develop system for tracking bills and communicating them to our followers
  • Write calls to action

Civic Engagement Team

Team Leader: Mariah Cole

Consider this your “boots on the ground” network that mobilizes when it’s time to take action on a bill, community issue, or election day activities. This team will be tasked with:

  • Attend monthly team conference calls and/or meetings
  • Develop calendar of speaker topics and events
  • Plan events
  • Secure speakers, venues, sponsors and partner organizations
  • Confirm venue logistical needs
  • Assist in promotion of events
  • Collect, log, and deliver voter registration forms
  • Collect, log and maintain event sign-in sheets

Creative Team

Team Leader: Charlane Oliver

The Creative Team is looking for copywriters, bloggers, storytellers, graphic designers, photographers and videographers who are willing to work pro bono for 2-5 hours a month. We also need creative, resourceful, and tech-savvy individuals who can:

  • Manage The Equity Alliance’s website
  • Manage our social media accounts
  • Maintain an email database
  • Create email campaigns
  • Create and edit videos
  • Write compelling, concise and impactful digital content and blog posts

Civic Leadership Team

Team Leader: Charlane Oliver

Our goal is to create alliances and partner with established organizations to fight for like-minded causes. What organizations are you a part of that we can join forces with? Who do you know in your personal rolodex that can support our work? This is an all-hands-on-deck effort to tap the community for resources and support (tangible and intangible).

  • Identify and implement opportunities for people of color to serve on board, commissions and in legislative offices
