Thank you for making the 4th annual Black Women’s Empowerment Weekend one for the books! Powered by The Equity Alliance, Tennessee’s Black women-led advocacy force for unapologetic Black civic and political power building, the Black Women’s Empowerment Weekend 2023 included a Friday Summit and Saturday Brunch. The Summit will feature workshops and guest speakers to guide lively discussions on relationships, health and wellness, finances, career and entrepreneurship, and individual social responsibility. The fundraising Brunch honored three dynamic Black women who are trailblazers, disruptors, and champions of esteemed causes within the state. Unique to the BWEW + MNPS sponsorship, the Brunch also highlighted rising youth leaders.

The Black Women’s Empowerment Weekend is a highly anticipated premiere event exclusively designed for Black women and girls, and open to those who support, stand with, and bet on Black women.

The weekend was filled with so much love, learning, sisterhood, laughs and good food. Our Summit left us all feeling inspired and encouraged to show up more fully as we embrace the work and to center joy in all that we do./

Black women's empowerment summit

The BWEW Summit featured workshops and guest speakers for Black women and girls to reclaim their dedication to self and community. Our panelists and moderators represented a variety of industries and perspectives. We’re sure that the lively conversations and thoughts sparked during these workshops will extend well beyond the Summit!

Through Black Women for Tennessee, we continuously use innovative ways to connect with and uplift women of all ages. This year, GEMS, Girls Empowered and Motivated to Succeed, were among our special guests at the Black Women’s Empowerment Summit. Through a partnership with Metro Nashville Public Schools, we welcomed 50 high school girls to this year’s summit. These young ladies had a special track of workshops, panels and activities to support and encourage them as they enter womanhood. It was an honor to share space this weekend with the next generation of empowered women! Thank you MNPS for this partnership and your continued investment in education and in opportunities for our students.

black women's empowerment brunch

We had Marathon Music Works packed to the max with empowered women from across the country who were ready to celebrate our honorees and enjoy a delicious brunch.

Our lineup of performers truly put the art in artist! A huge thank you to all of our performers who shared their talents with us over the weekend. Nate Bean & 4Given even took us to church on Saturday with a much-needed praise break, and for that, we are extra grateful!

Patrick Walker Reese gave a new perspective when he shared his latest poem the PWR of Women.
Saaneah reminded us to be confident in who are as she serenaded us during the Summit.
Cristina Rae left us speechless when she sang hits by Tina Turner and Beyoncé.
Dominique Young definitely amazed us with gravity-defying aerial acrobatics.
Loren Hatcher welcomed guests in style, as they stepped into the brunch venue to the sound of a live violinist.
Nate Bean & 4Given got us all on our feet singing and praising with their beautiful singing and harmonization.

The energy and passion of this weekend’s performers is unmatched! Make sure to follow them on IG and stay on the lookout for their next performances.

We had a blast celebrating this year’s honorees; three women who have made invaluable contributions to the areas of workers’ rights, public policy and community advocacy.
🌺Vonda McDaniel, The Pioneer in Politics, is a loyal advocate for workers’ rights. She’s a powerful leader who has tirelessly worked to create a better future for all.
🌺Sen. Raumesh Akbari, The Unsung She-ro, represents District 29 in the TN State Senate. She’s gained national recognition for her continued work in the legislature to create better opportunities for all Tennesseans.
🌺Amber Sherman, The Radical Flame, is a multi-talented policy analyst, activist and strategist! Amber currently serves as a Rapid Response Organizer at In Our Names Network.

Thank you for your continued contributions to the betterment of our communities.
