The Black Women’s Empowerment Weekend is a highly anticipated premiere event exclusively designed for Black women and girls, and open to those who support, stand with, and bet on Black women.

The BWEW Summit will be held at the Cal Turner Family Center at Meharry Medical College on Friday, July 26. The Summit features workshops and guest speakers for Black women and girls to reclaim their dedication to self and community. Our panelists and moderators represent a variety of industries and perspectives. We’re sure that the lively conversations and thoughts sparked during these workshops will extend well beyond the Summit!

In this session, Rachael Spriggs will dive into the evolving dynamics of our state’s political landscape. Rachael Spriggs, Powerbuilding Director at TEA, will shed light on the demographic shifts among Black voters and populations, and promoting opportunities to transition towards a democracy that more accurately reflects our diverse communities. This exploration will also highlight how these changes enhance The Equity Alliance’s impact, paving the way for more effective advocacy and a stronger voice in shaping our political future. Join us for an insightful discussion on how these shifts can drive meaningful change and elevate our collective influence in the democratic process.

The New Era of Networking

Presented by Ashley Garth, VP of Marketing at Legacy Leadership Institute

Ashley Garth will lead a transformative session on modern networking techniques. We’ll explore how networking can transcend traditional boundaries to become a transformative force for personal growth, professional advancement, and community empowerment for Black women.

Mama Never Told Me 

Presented by Dr. Angelica Garrett, Obstetrician and Gynecologist at the Meharry Clinic and Dr. Jamie L. Ware, Board-Certified Obstetrician-Gynecologist at the Meharry Clinic and Associate Professor at the Meharry School of Medicine. Moderated by TEA’s Director of Organization Affairs & Efficiency Antricia Gordon.

Dr. Garrett and Dr. Ware will provide invaluable insights into women’s reproductive health. Mama Never Told Me” is an insightful conversation between Black women about the unspoken realities of our bodies. From navigating perimenopause to grappling with fibroids, we explore the challenges and choices that define our experiences. This conversation seeks to unveil what traditional wisdom has left unsaid about our bodies, fostering candid discussions that empower and inform. Join us as we share stories, insights, and support in reclaiming our health and wellness narratives.

Pleasure Principle

Black Love is Revolutionary Fireside Chat

This pays homage to the historic 1971 dialogue between James Baldwin and Nikki Giovanni in London, reimagined for today.
