black women for tennessee

On June 6, 2018, more than 300 phenomenal Black women answered the call for Unity and gathered on the steps of the Tennessee State Capitol to send a message: our votes will not be denied, overlooked, or taken for granted.

Throughout 2018, we hosted several conversations with Black women about what we bring to the table when it comes to leadership, politics, business, our relationships, and our families. One thing held and continues to hold true: we are magical.

Reflecting on the 2017 success of our southern sisters in Alabama, where 98% of Black women turned out to vote for and elect Doug Jones to the U.S. Senate, defeating his openly racist Republican opponent. It was the first time in 25 years that a Democrat won a seat in the staunchly conservative state. From Black Lives Matter to #MeToo, Black women are at the forefront of progressive movements today. These are just a few examples where Black women have stepped up to lead and get the job done.

That’s why we have Black Women for Tennessee, a statewide nonpartisan effort to unite all the Black-women-led and women-led organizations across the state to register voters, inform voters, and get voters to the polls.

We’ve proven time and time again that Black women lead the way. Let’s keep up the momentum by uniting from our various walks of life to ensure Black voters are registered to vote and turn out in large numbers for every election.

We invite you to be a part of the hyper-local grassroots, grass top, and coalition-building work of The Equity Alliance to ensure minority voices are heard on Election Day. Our mission is laser-focused on ensuring communities of color have access to the ballot box. As a voting bloc that consistently votes in large numbers, we strongly believe that Black women can and will make a collective impact in Tennessee.

It’s time for Tennessee to #BetOnBlackWomen and get with #BlackWomenForTN.
