The federal government shutdown has paused SNAP benefits across Tennessee. For thousands of families already navigating rising food costs and economic instability, this means choosing between groceries and rent, between feeding their kids and paying utility bills. Black communities feel these failures first and hardest.
But we’re not waiting for systems to start working again. We’re building our own response.
From November 5 through December 17, Feed the Block is bringing hot meals, food boxes, and essential resources to families across Tennessee every single week. This is neighbors caring for neighbors. This is community power in action.
This isn’t a handout. This is a radical act of service, solidarity, and self-determination.
Each week feels like a community gathering, with music, conversation, and connection. Not a charity line. We’re hosts, not servers. Every meal is a chance to build relationships, share resources, and remind each other that we’re in this together. Because when systems fail, our people don’t. We show up. We serve. We feed each other.

Host a Feed the Block day at Harambee House! As a Block Captain, you’ll choose a date to lead, help coordinate sponsorship, meals, and resources, and invite others to join in service and community care.
Being a Block Captain, allows you to:
Sponsor a Week: Underwrite one Weekly Table in Nashville, Clarksville, or Memphis.
Donate: Partner with TEA to provide hygiene products, essential items, and prepared plates from your restaurant, business, or food truck.
Host a Table: Lend space, staff, or equipment to help make the Weekly Tables possible.
Be a Resource: Volunteer with us to make this initiative strong!
We’re serving 300+ families every week across three cities. That’s hot meals, food boxes, and essential resources going directly to people who need them most—no red tape, no waiting, no bureaucracy.
Every dollar you give helps us keep tables full while the government stays shut down. Your support funds meals, supplies volunteers with resources to distribute, and ensures we can show up consistently for our communities every single Wednesday.
This is community care in action. This is how we take care of our own.
