Black on Buchanan—our block party on June 14th—turned North Nashville’s historic Black neighborhood into a celebration of community power. With 75+ Black-owned vendors, support from sponsors like Meharry Medical College and the North Nashville Arts Coalition, and thousands of attendees who shopped local, connected at every booth, and danced in the street, we held it down for freedom. From the drumline’s thunderous rhythms and Sankofa’s cultural pulse to Meme the Goat’s viral groove, Coach Q’s electric set, Young Dro’s headline heat, and every act in between, Black joy was on full display—and the energy never stopped.
This year’s celebration wouldn’t have been the same without our dynamic hosts: Jess Williams, TEA’s Director of Growth & Engagement, and Nashville radio personality Jordan “JG” Gaither. From opening remarks to between-set hype, they kept the crowd amped—dropping shout-outs, teasing the next act, and making sure every moment landed with maximum impact. Their energy threaded the whole day together, turning Black on Buchanan into one seamless movement of Black joy.
