Strong Families. Secure Futures. Thriving Communities.

The Equity Alliance is leveraging political
power for economic transformation.

About the Campaign

The Powering Economic Justice campaign marks TEA’s evolution from voting rights to full-scale economic justice. We’re centering Black communities—those most impacted by economic instability—and building a multiracial movement to secure housing, childcare, and dignified careers across Tennessee.

Why This Matters

When Black families thrive, we all rise. This isn’t charity—it’s justice. We’re building a Tennessee where every community has:

What We're Demanding

We’re not asking for handouts—we’re organizing for structural change. Powering Economic Justice means reshaping the rules so Black communities can build, grow, and thrive. These demands are how we turn political wins into economic freedom.

Our Strategy

Power Economic Justice is a statewide campaign to unite Black, brown, white, and immigrant working-class communities around our shared economic struggles—while unapologetically centering Black brilliance and lived experience. In 2021, we talked to over 20,000 Black Tennesseans, and what we heard was clear: economic freedom was the top demand from politicians. We also heard the need for other communities to stand in solidarity around issues that matter to Black communities. Now, we’re grounding this next phase of work in real stories—not just to collect data, but because lived experiences should shape policy and drive action. We’re building a strong coalition with a shared vision and bold messaging that gives people something to fight for, not just against.

This campaign is about showing up to the table—with candidates, elected officials, and decision-makers—with tangible, community-driven demands. We’re co-creating a bold policy agenda with directly impacted communities that will guide coalition strategy, candidate recruitment, and electoral organizing. And we’re mobilizing across the state to turn those demands into real wins—starting with housing, child care, and workforce equity. This is more than a campaign—it’s a movement for strong families, secure futures, and thriving communities.
